Heritage Chestnuts is a family owned business that stretches across three generations. Our business’s origin is in Calhoun County, Florida. This land holds our memories, as two of our own got engaged on the very soil where our chestnut trees are now growing. The idea of Heritage Chestnuts was birthed in 2023 while we were in Italy visiting family. It was there that we fell in love with chestnuts and decided it was a worthy investment of our time and effort.
Chestnuts are not just “roasted by an open fire”, they are used to create flour that is diabetic friendly as well. Which is something we are passionate about due to having a family member who struggles with their blood sugar, can anyone relate?
This business has created a deeper connection within our family and we look forward to bringing it to your table for your family to enjoy as well. Check out our gallery page to see the chestnut orchard and the people who delight in taking part in the production of chestnuts.
Everything stems from our +8 acre orchard that is the home of more than 400 trees. It is through the growth of the trees that chestnuts and seedlings are produced. Whether your need is pounds of chestnuts, or seedlings to grow your own chestnut tree - contact us for more information, we aim to meet those needs with integrity and excellence.
In the near future we will be selling freshly ground chestnut flour. Chestnut flour has been deemed a healthy alternative for those with diabetes and gluten allergies, we are passionate about wholesome ingredients and providing others with the opportunity to increase quality of life. More information will be provided once our mill is up and running.
The beginning stages of growth are crucial for the survival of the chestnut tree. A seedling is a young chestnut tree that is produced from a seed. While it only stands a few inches tall, it has the potential to mature into a fully grown chestnut tree for chestnut production. While it may seem daunting to grow your own tree, we are here to assist you in this process the best that we can. When you receive your seedling, you will be given step by step instructions for the optimal care of your seedling.
Chestnuts are a nutritious nut that provides several health benefits. The nature of the commonly used all purpose flour leads to rapid spikes in blood sugar levels due to it being low in fiber and high in refined carbohydrates. Chestnut flour on the other hand is high in fiber, complex carbohydrates and possesses several vitamins and minerals making it a very nutrient rich option. Not to mention, it is gluten-free. Chestnut flour is a wonderful alternative for sweet and savory dishes alike. Our favorite ways to use chestnut flour is in sour dough bread and pancakes. We hope that the nutritional benefits will give you ease of mind as you provide your family with a delicious, and healthy alternative.
